I'm Lisa Brennan, the Director of Neurodivergent People Consultancy.Â
Education has always been a central part of my life. With both of my parents working as special education teachers, I grew up with a deep respect for learning and inclusion. But while I always loved learning, I found the pressures of school challenging. It wasn’t until much later—after becoming a teacher myself—that I fully understood why.
I began my teaching career in 2003 and quickly became passionate about access, inclusion, and continual professional development. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with teachers to improve inclusive practices, including designing and delivering a university-accredited training module for teachers of EAL pupils in schools. That experience showed me the power of working with educators—because every teacher I train impacts countless students.
But my understanding of inclusion deepened even further when I became a parent. Navigating the diagnosis and support process for my neurodivergent children was eye-opening. Despite the dedication of many teachers, I saw first-hand how difficult it was to ensure they received the support they needed to thrive. I worked tirelessly with their schools, advocating for accommodations and strategies that should have been more accessible.
Around the same time, I discovered that I, too, am neurodivergent, as is my husband. This led me to experience first-hand the challenges of navigating workplace accommodations—another area where more awareness and support are desperately needed.
These experiences—both personal and professional—made me realize how much support schools, universities, and workplaces need to create truly inclusive environments. That’s why I founded my consultancy: to help educators and employers bridge the gap between good intentions and meaningful inclusion.
Through curriculum audits, teacher training, SEN provision enhancement, and workplace inclusion strategies, I empower organizations to not only meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals but to help them thrive. Because when inclusion is done right, everyone benefits.
